Little River

Little River - Canadian Match FishingLittle River begins it origin as a small feeder creek in the agricultural landscape of Essex County.
Little River stretches its length through Windsor , the motor city capital of Canada, to the industrial setting of the Detroit River.
Once a meandering creek from its start to its finish, Little River now ends its course as a one mile man made canalized stretch of water.
This one mile stretch of canalized water is only one of its uniqueness. The other is attributed to the construction of a water treatment plant on its East bank. Clean water discharged from the treatment plant is responsible for making Little River a 365 day a year match venue. Water is discharged at an average temperature of 70 degree Fahrenheit.Water temperatures during the cold winter months average 40-50 degree Fahrenheit. Water temperatures during the summer months average 73-77 degrees Fahrenheit. This mild fluctuation of water temperature is responsible for creating a perfect habitant for over 25 different species of fish.
Another unique quality of Little River is her tow. The river will always move. Figuring out the movement of the water will always prove a task for any angler fishing. The river has the ability to change speed and direction without notice. An angler's ability to adjust to these changes will effect what is weighed in at the end of a match.
It has been stated on numerous occasions that Little River is one of the best, if not the best, match fishing venue in north America.
The Can/Am International and C.M.F.C. hosts their annual match series on the section of Little River from the Little River Boulevard bridge to the South side of the water treatment plant cut and from the North side of the water treatment plant cut to the turn around at Martha Road.
Together both of these sections can accommodate 40 plus anglers. Access from the bridge at Little River Boulevard can involve a good brisk walk (Tackle Included)of up to half a mile. Access from Martha Road can also involve a brisk walk (Tackle Included) of up to 600 yards. Both sections of the riverbank are slightly sloped, with covered rock from the trail to the waters edge.
Currently a new section of Little River (South of the Little River Boulevard )is being pre-fished in order to determine its potential as an additional match fish-able section.
Early sessions have revealed favourable catches and favourable fishing conditions. Access to this section can be gained from the bridge at Little River Boulevard. This section can be fished starting 300 yards from the bridge and continue well over 3/4 of a mile up stream. As with the other two sections the sloping bank is covered with rock from the trail to the waters edge.
